Dryer Vents

How Often Should You Clean a Dryer Vent?

For the best performance and safety, your dryer vent should be inspected and cleaned once a year. It’s also a good idea to have the vent inspected if you notice poor dryer performance. If your dryer isn’t getting clothes as dry as it used to, or if it seems to take longer than usual to get a load dried, it may be time for a cleaning. Why is Dryer Vent Cleaning Important?

The dryer vent, or exhaust vent, allows damp air to escape from your clothes dryer. Without proper ventilation, your clothes will not dry properly – clothes may tumble and get warm but will always feel damp. However, ventilation can be hampered by a clogged dryer vent. Poor clothes dryer performance is often the first sign that dryer vent cleaning is required. If the vent is not frequently inspected and cleaned, flammable lint can build up in the duct, blocking the ventilation of exhaust gases. This, in turn, poses a fire hazard. About 15,000 clothes dryer fires happen every year in this country, making clogged dryer vents even more dangerous than chimneys.
